PC Security explained...
Many homes and businesses now have computers which are linked to a fast broadband connection. However, this brings with it a myriad of problems if you don't take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and your privacy online.
What are the potential problems?
There are a number of ways in which your online security can be compromised:
- No Antivirus software
- No Anti Spyware software
- No Firewall - in most instances the Windows Firewall is just not enough
- Unsecured Wireless network
The last item on the list will allow your neighbours or any stranger who can 'see' your network to use your broadband connection. At best this can mean that your monthly broadband allowance could be used by someone else, but you have to pay for it, and at worst your personal data can be stolen by someone sitting in a car with a laptop - this could lead to Identity theft and years of credit problems !
